See... I get irritated when somebody, be it Americans or Indians, refer to us as East Indians. Arent we THE Indians? Why are we letting ourselves be denoted by the term used by the British when they ruled over us? Time and again, we have been sucking up to the western countries, and we forgot who we are really. Once every explorer and kingdom in Europe wanted to find a way to reach our country. America was accidentally discovered while trying to reach India. Our country is not the Republic of East India, it is the Republic of India. We should start correcting the people we see using this term, but perhaps, we should do a reality check ourselves before doing that.

its amazing that a 500 yr old ideology still resonates in our modern times. so colombus was looking for india when he sailed west & when he found land, he assumed it was india & he had found indiansthis was the start of east indians & west indians, although the term west indians has evolved into native americans, east indian has not yet evolved & it should!lets all make an effort to just call ourselves indian, plain n simpleindian culture is one of the oldest on this planet, before the so called western world even existed. why is it that we believe & follow their ways....we should carve our own path in this lifei believe in co-existing & respecting the next mans beliefs & outlooks on life, regardless of race, skin, sex, etc

You are so right ! We retain our dignity by calling ourselves Indians. You know, amongst us theres so many Indians who shy away from beingan Indian . . and I just cannot fathom it. I was not born in India and neitherwere my grandparents . . But I an a proud Indian at heart . . no country hasand will take the Indian out of me. charan4u2003###### - Login To See Contact Information
